Detectives release third man questioned on suspicion of attempted murder in Hartlepool

The 29-year-old victim was left with serious leg injuries and minor chest injuries after he was struck by a car in the lane which runs off Shields Terrace and behind Romaine Park near to West View Road in the town at 7.30pm on Saturday, July 11.
Residents said they heard a loud bang and saw a man lying on the ground surrounded by people in the moments after the collision as they left their homes to investigate, with police and paramedics soon on the scene of the crash.

Hide AdNeighbours also said the car hit a wall in the lane in the incident, leaving it badly damaged, with screams and shouting heard as the alarm was raised about the injured man.
He was taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough by the North East Ambulance Service, while a cordon remained in place at the scene until around 4pm the next day as inquiries to establish the circumstances got underway.
The force issued an update today – Tuesday, July 14 – and said the 31-year-old arrested on Monday on suspicion of the same offence has also been released on conditional bail after he had been questioned by its detectives.

Hide AdA spokesperson for the force said: “Inquiries are ongoing and we would appeal for anyone with information to contact Cleveland Police via the 101 number quoting Ref 112003.”
Police have said the injured man is continuing to receive treatment, with his injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
