Fears for parachutist sparks calls to emergency services

Concerns a parachute had not deployed correctly led to calls to the emergency services fearing someone was hurt – with an ambulance crew stood down after no one was injured.

The North East Ambulance Service was called at 12.43pm today, Saturday, April 24, with reports a skydiver’s parachute had failed near Shotton Colliery.

One ambulance was sent to the B1283 Durham Lane area close to Easington Village however, the alert was called off a short time later when no one was injured.
