And quoting fellow presenter Kris Kamara’s catchphrase, he added: “I know in the main you are unheralded, you are most certainly unpaid, but as a friend of mine might say you are also unbelievable.”
It comes as the Mail continues its Big Thank You campaign where today we salute carers, during national Carers Week from June 8-14, which aims to raise awareness of the challenges unpaid carers face and the difference they make.
Christine Fewster, chief executive of Hartlepool Carers, said due to coronavirus many people are taking on more caring responsibilities for relatives and friends.

During the pandemic, Hartlepool Carers has been working hard to ensure they are identified as early as possible and make sure they are supported.
Christine added: “Caring's impact on all aspects of life from relationships and health to finances and work should not be underestimated, and carers are facing even more difficult circumstances this year.
“It is vitally important that we recognise the contribution carers make to their families and local communities, workplaces and society, and that they get the support they need.
